Update on Seed Savers Efforts
All three Iowa chapters of Trout Unlimited, along with the help of Hawkeye Fly Fishing Association (HFFA) members, continued efforts to help the landscape at Seed Savers Exchange located near Decorah, IA.
This year we removed trash in and around the spring creek that runs through Seed Savers' property. Many items removed were a direct result of severe spring rains in 2015 that dumped over 5.5 inches of rain in a matter of hours.
Seed Savers' staff showed participants where harsh erosion had occurred along with their plans to recover the landscape. After inspecting previous year's work, we had a very positive impression of those efforts, which included implementing buffers, plantings, and opening the landscape for water to flow more slowly.
Before beginning the day, Seed Savers provided us with an opportunity to chat and enjoy refreshments. Afterward, Seed Savers recognized our support by providing a wonderful lunch. Parcticipants talked with each outher about possible conservation efforts in other locations as well as hosting a fly rod casting clinic in the afternoon that day.
Seed Savers is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and sharing heirloom seeds:
